  • Author: Louisa
  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 8 hand rolls 1x

Description

Temaki Salmon Cream Cheese is a fun and easy-to-make sushi hand roll that combines the rich flavors of fresh salmon, creamy cheese, and crisp nori (seaweed). This dish is perfect for a light meal, party appetizer, or sushi night with friends and family.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup sushi rice, cooked and seasoned with rice vinegar
  • 4 sheets of nori (seaweed), cut in half
  • 4 oz fresh salmon, sashimi grade, sliced into thin strips
  • 4 oz cream cheese, sliced into thin strips or softened for easy spreading
  • 1 avocado, thinly sliced
  • 1 small cucumber, julienned
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional)
  • Soy sauce, for dipping
  • Pickled ginger and wasabi, for serving

Instructions

  • Prepare the sushi rice:
Cook 1 cup of sushi rice according to package instructions. While still warm, season with rice vinegar (about 2 tablespoons), a pinch of sugar, and a pinch of salt. Let the rice cool to room temperature.

  • Prepare the ingredients:
Slice the salmon, cream cheese, avocado, and cucumber into thin strips for easy assembly.

  • Set up the rolling station:
Lay out the halved nori sheets, prepared sushi rice, and sliced ingredients on a clean surface or cutting board.

  • Assemble the temaki:

    • Place one halved sheet of nori, shiny side down, on your palm.
    • Spread a small handful of sushi rice (about 2-3 tablespoons) diagonally across one-half of the nori sheet.
    • Layer a strip of salmon, cream cheese, avocado, and cucumber over the rice.
    • Sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired.
  • Roll the temaki:
Roll the nori sheet into a cone shape by folding the bottom corner over the ingredients and wrapping it around to form a cone. Use a small dab of rice to seal the edge.

  • Serve immediately:
Arrange the temaki on a plate and serve with soy sauce, pickled ginger, and wasabi on the side.

Notes

  • Substitutions: If you prefer cooked salmon, use smoked salmon or baked salmon instead of sashimi-grade raw salmon.
  • Cream Cheese Tip: If the cream cheese is difficult to slice, soften it slightly and spread it directly onto the rice.
  • Make-Ahead Option: Prepare all ingredients ahead of time and let guests assemble their own hand rolls for a fun dining experience.
  • Additions: Enhance the flavor with spicy mayo, sriracha, or a drizzle of unagi sauce.
