Description

❤️ Heart-Shaped Cake Recipe ❤️

A heart-shaped cake is a perfect way to show love and affection for special occasions like Valentine’s Day, anniversaries, birthdays, or any time you want to surprise someone special. This moist, fluffy cake is easy to make and can be customized with your favorite flavors and decorations.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Cake:

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • Red or pink food coloring (optional, for a romantic touch)

For the Buttercream Frosting:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 23 tbsp heavy cream or milk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • A pinch of salt
  • Food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat Oven:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a heart-shaped cake pan or use a square and round pan to form a heart (cutting method explained below).
  • Prepare the Cake Batter:
In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. In another large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in vanilla extract and food coloring if using.
  • Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients:
Alternately add the dry ingredients and buttermilk to the creamed mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  • Bake the Cake:
Pour the batter into the prepared heart-shaped pan or divide it between a square pan and a round pan (cut the round cake in half and arrange alongside the square to form a heart). Bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Cool the Cake:
Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before frosting.
  • Make the Frosting:
Beat the butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, mixing well. Add vanilla, salt, and enough cream to reach the desired consistency. Add food coloring if desired.
  • Assemble and Decorate:
Frost the cake evenly with the buttercream. Decorate with sprinkles, edible glitter, fresh berries, or chocolate shavings to enhance the heart-shaped design.

Notes

  • DIY Heart Shape: If you don’t have a heart-shaped pan, use an 8-inch square pan and an 8-inch round pan. Cut the round cake in half and place the halves on two adjacent sides of the square to form a heart.
  • Flavor Variations: Add cocoa powder for a chocolate version, or mix in strawberry puree for a fruity twist.
  • Storage: Keep the cake covered at room temperature for up to 2 days, or refrigerate for up to 5 days.
