Cottage Cheese Flatbread – A Wholesome & Irresistible Way to Enjoy Flatbreads

  • Author: Louisa
  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 6–8 flatbreads

Description

This Cottage Cheese Flatbread combines the creamy tang of cottage cheese with simple pantry staples to create a soft and satisfying bread. It’s great for savory or sweet toppings, and the added protein makes it a healthy choice for any meal or snack.

Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour: 2 cups (plus extra for dusting)
  • Baking powder: 1 tsp
  • Salt: 1/2 tsp
  • Cottage cheese: 1 cup (smooth or slightly blended for a creamy consistency)
  • Olive oil: 2 tbsp
  • Warm water: 2–4 tbsp (as needed)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough:

    • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
    • Add the cottage cheese and olive oil, mixing until the dough starts to come together.
    • Gradually add warm water, 1 tablespoon at a time, until the dough is soft but not sticky.
  2. Knead the Dough:

    • Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for 5–7 minutes until smooth.
    • Cover the dough with a clean towel and let it rest for 15 minutes.
  3. Divide and Roll:

    • Divide the dough into 6–8 equal portions and roll each piece into a ball.
    • Use a rolling pin to flatten each ball into a thin circle or oval, about 1/4 inch thick.
  4. Cook the Flatbread:

    • Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat.
    • Cook each flatbread for 2–3 minutes on one side until bubbles form and golden spots appear. Flip and cook for another 2–3 minutes.
  5. Serve:

    • Remove from the skillet and brush with a little olive oil or melted butter, if desired. Serve warm with your favorite toppings or sides.

Notes

  • Substitutions: Use whole wheat flour for a healthier option or gluten-free flour to accommodate dietary needs.
  • Add-Ins: For extra flavor, mix herbs, garlic powder, or shredded cheese into the dough.
  • Storage: Store leftover flatbread in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or freeze for up to a month.
